NEAR JACKSONVILLE, Ore. -- One hundred years ago, much of the world was tangle up in what later became World War I, or "The Great War."

The United States officially managed to stay out of that war until 1917, but in 1915 one of the greatest tragedies of the war helped push the United States into that conflict.
