Cole Schiffer was picked as one of the top placing students throughout the entire state.
Now he's advancing to the next round.

Students from 4th through 8th grade throughout Oregon took a qualifying test.

Cole was one of the top scoring in the state.

Cole Schiffer says, "There's a lot of schools that do, and kids that take the test and to get in the top 100 was pretty awesome, I was really excited when I found out."

His teacher, Miss Swope, wasn't surprised Cole would rank so high.
Miss Swope says, “I wasn't surprised I was pleased, I was glad for him, this is our fourth student in four years who has achieved this."

His mom says he's curious by nature.

Robyn Schiffer says, "We used to always watch the Baby Einsteins so we joke about that. He has a really good memory and he's always really interest in everything going on in the world."

Cole says like most teens, he spends time on his phone, playing geography games.

Cole Schiffer says, “We have geography class every day and just the apps that you can download, I use those. "

The State Bee will be held at Western Oregon University on April 6th.

Each state champion will receive $200, the National Geographic Visual Atlas of the World, and a trip to Washington, D.C. to represent their state in the championship in May.
