houston/mt. ashland: "right now mt. ashland is covered in this fresh powder, two inches of it from this weekend. now weeks cold front will get them closer to that goal." today mt. ashland was quiet. for the past 7 days their lifts have been still...and slopes untouched. right now there's about 16 inches of snow at the base of the mountain...and they need around 26 inches to open. although there's been sun and warmer temperatures for this time of year...the snow they did get is sticking. hiram towle/general manager, mt. ashland ski area: "the cold weather is really holding the snow that we have up there. the stuff we were skiing on for the 8 days we did get open, it's still holding tight up on romeo and juliet." today hiram told me this isn't the first lean season on the mountain....and it's just part of being in the ski business. he says they plan on having a late season in march and april like they've stay open late we certainly will. you know it's not unusual for these dry periods to come early in the season." and it won't stay dry for long. on wednesday mt. ashland will get a couple inches of snow. and then by this weekend a bigger storm will bring more significant snow to the mountain. in ashland...kate be hosting their bavarian nights
