Pet of the Week: Nacho and Bobbie

Please help Nacho and Bobbie find their forever homes.

Posted: Jul 8, 2021 6:10 PM

Let’s meet our Pet of the Week for the first full week of July.

First up - Meet Nacho! He's a loving, 3-year-old mix who came to the shelter about four months ago. Nacho had a pretty rough start to life. He was part of an animal hoarding case, which can have both immediate and long-term effects on the animals involved. Nacho recently went into foster care to heal from a deep cut on one of his paws and, we can happily say, has been thriving since. His paw is now healed and he's ready for a permanent home - hoping that you can be a part of turning his heartbreaking story into a heartwarming one.

Nacho is a sweetheart who gets along well with other dogs, both big and small. Since Nacho is more confident when other dogs are around, he would do best in a house with a buddy, but he also enjoys cuddling on the couch with his human friends. Although Nacho can be a bit shy with strangers, especially men, he will warm up once he gets to know you. Please keep in mind that we can’t always know exactly what happened to animals before they arrived at the shelter. So, it can take some time for them to warm up and realize they’re safe. Nacho seems to do best with women and often connects with them immediately. As far as fur friends, he doesn't really do well with cats, so a house without them is probably best.

As for foster care, Nacho has been quiet in his foster home and only barks with reason. His gentle and shy demeanor has convinced his foster family that he is not really much of a guard dog. Nacho is still a bit insecure when walking on a leash and can be skittish around groups of people or fast moving bikes. Therefore, if you’re looking for a dog to walk around town, Nacho will probably need a little bit of work before you make a day of it. Nacho has good manners, he is not destructive and he does well when left alone. Nacho is crate trained and considers the crate to be his safe place. He sleeps quietly all night, either in his crate or on the couch, and he does know some commands like sit and heel. Given that Nacho is willing to please and is treat-motivated, he’s an easy dog to train. Although he can have bursts of high energy every now and then, he settles down easily and would love to lay down with you.

Nacho should meet any other dogs in your house prior to his adoption, just to make sure it is a good fit. If you think Nacho is something you would like to add to your plate, please contact foster coordinator Michelle at 510-589-7341.

Next up - meet Bobbie! Bobbie is a 1-year-old brown and white tabby cat. She may be part Manx mix since she has no tail. Bobbie was brought to the shelter to find a new home after her owner could no longer care for her. Although she is a bit of an independent kitty, Bobbie enjoys gentle pets and sweet nothings. From time to time, she can get over stimulated so she may not be a good fit for a home with young children. Bobbie loves cat wand toys. She doesn't like to be held or sit on your lap. She is looking for a home with a cat savvy person who has experience with independent kitties like her. If you have the love and patience to allow Bobbie all the time she needs to settle into her new home, please come adopt her today. Bobbie's adoption fee has been prepaid by a generous donor of Friends of the Animal Shelter. So, she is free to a good home, as long as it’s the right one.

For more information about our Pets of the Week, or to meet Nacho and Bobbie, please call the Jackson County Animal Shelter at 541-774-6654. The shelter is located at 5595 S. Pacific Highway in Phoenix. Their hours are Tuesday - Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday - Sunday from noon to 4:00 p.m.
