GRANTS PASS, Ore,-The Project GAP program is designed for students who may be needing some extra help with graduation or will be the first in their family to go to college.

The student will get paired with a mentor who can help them with FAFSA, college applications, and talking about career options.

But to expend the program, directer CeCe Hansen says she needs to find mentors from the community for these children.

"To be a mentor you just need to have a heart for kids. Mentors, I have in my training manual, mentors are trustworthy. Everything a student shares with a mentor is confidential," says Hansen

You don't need a college degree to help a child in this program, you just need a little bit of extra time to spend with them.

Mentors and students meet for one hour every week our two too talk about their goals and help motivate them.

Hansen says mentors should stay with their student for at least a year, but it would be best if they could stay with them until their graduation.

"I just picture a graduation ceremony full of community members that have helped these kids across the line through graduation and looking into their future and making plans for their future," says Hansen.

Although only students from hidden valley high school are participating now...she wants to open it up to all high school students in the district.

Hansen's goal over the next few years is to have at least 25 mentors with 1 to 4 students per mentor.
