MEDFORD, Ore. — The City of Medford kicks off the 8th annual Winter Lights Festival this Saturday evening — marking the event with family activities, a visit from Santa, and a fireworks display.
The event is sponsored by the City of Medford and Lithia, taking place at Pear Blossom Park along 4th and Bartlett streets at The Commons. Here's a breakdown of what's happening and when:
- The 18th-annual Candy Cane Hunt — an adorable event geared for very young children — kicks off at 4:30 p.m. on the lawn in front of the Pear Blossom Park stage.
- At 5:30 p.m., Santa arrives on stage, accompanied by the South Medford High Marching Band. Santa will be available for photos at the “North Pole” Space located at the Lithia Building Main Entrance across from the park.
- At 5:45 p.m. a 4 minute, 17 second fireworks display will burst over the Middleford Parking Garage.
- The civic Christmas tree will be illuminated at approximately 6:00p.m. The permanent holiday tree is a Norway spruce, flanked by two Nordmann firs and an Engelmann spruce. The young trees will be adorned with thousands of colorful LEDs.
City officials say that Rogue Valley DJs will be providing music for the event, which will also feature a Medford Police vehicle display, community partner booths, and character meet-and-greets. Bobatastic, Walkabout Brewing, SnoBall Mini Doughnuts and Fluffy’s Cotton Candy will be the food vendors.
For the eighth consecutive year, the Lithia 4 Kids Foundation is sponsoring a coloring contest for children ages 4-12. Participants are eligible to win a bicycle. The winners will be announced before the Christmas tree illumination.
The City of Talent has a Christmas tree lighting ceremony scheduled for December 7, with festivities beginning at 6 p.m. at the Town Hall.
