GRANTS PASS, Ore. — Josephine County officals have submitted their plan for entering Phase II of loosening coronavirus restrictions. The letter was sent to Governor Kate Brown's office on Tuesday.

According to the letter, Josephine County has requested to enter Phase II on June 6. Officials in Jackson County submitted their own plan on Monday, requesting to enter Phase II on June 5.

The criteria for Phase II includes enough personal protective equipment (PPE) for first responders, a required number of contact tracers relative to the county population, and continuing to meet the prerequisites of Phase I. County officials attested that they have met those standards.

Josephine County said that it has a team of 20 contact tracers, two of whom are Spanish speakers. The County also said that it runs an average of 317 tests per week, exceeding the Oregon Health Authority's minimum.

Much like Phase I in the days leading up to May 15, the specifics of Phase II are still largely unknown. The possible components of Phase II include optional increased work in offices, expanding in-person local gatherings to 100 people with physical distancing, and limited visits to nursing homes.

A draft plan for Phase II posted by Oregon officials included the possibility of opening small and medium-sized venues — such as theaters and churches — allowing certain indoor or outdoor activities like bowling, pool, arcades, and batting cages, and resuming youth sports.

The draft also included a possible extension of the curfew at restaurants and bars to midnight, in addition to increasing the footprint for table space with approved outdoor spaces.
