ASHLAND, Ore. -- The Mt. Ashland Ski Area announced Friday it will host a terrain park this Saturday and Sunday from 9 to 4.

Hiram Towle, General Manager, said the terrain park will be bigger than the Snow Stomp with the recent 10" of snowfall.

"We'll have a number of boxes and bonks and hits," Towle said.

The lodge will be open with all the usual services, including the renovated T-Bar, Granite Grill, and the Granite Cove retail shop will be open for last minute Christmas shopping. Due to limited terrain, the rental shop and ski school will not be open.

"We were just getting a little antsy with not being able to open the lifts, and we had such great success at our Snow Stomp party a couple weeks ago that we just wanted to get people out on the snow again and out team just doesn't know how to say no," Towle said.

Workers have been getting the park ready by "farming" snow from other areas of the mountain, using a snow groomer.

Towle said many people use Mt. Ashland as their "Winter" when there's no snow on the ground in the Valley.

"We're coming up on Christmas, we're coming up on the holidays, and a lot of people rely on Mt. Ashland," Towle said.

Because the mountain is not yet fully open, sleds are allowed on the Sonnet slope at the user’s own assumed risk. A steady stream of skiers and sledding families have been visiting the slopes since the first snows in September, despite the thin cover. Area managers simply ask that folks assume the risk, and play carefully. For more information, visit their website at www.mtashland.com

This weekend's terrain park is free to pass holders and ten dollars for everyone else.
