OSF Welcomes Acting Executive Director Paul Christy

Christy joins artistic director Bill Rauch at the helm of the organization while a national search for a new executive director gets underway.

ASHLAND, Ore. — With the 2019 season of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) already hurtling toward us, the organization announced on Wednesday that it has named Paul Christy as acting executive director. Christy will begin working at OSF later this week.

“The Board is delighted that Paul has agreed to join the organization as its acting executive director. So much of Paul’s government experience fits the administrative and business expertise that OSF was seeking in this position,” said OSF Board President Gail Lopes. “Those who have worked with Paul admire his leadership style, which is even-keeled, thoughtful and respectful of team members and their ideas. He makes tough decisions in a way that builds consensus.”

Christy is a current resident of Southern Oregon who served as the U.S. Small Business Administration's chief operating officer before retiring in 2014. He will partner with current artistic director Bill Rauch in leading the organization while OSF's Board of Directors searches for a long-term executive director to replace Cynthia Rider, who last held the post.

“I am thrilled to be partnering with Paul,” Rauch said, “and am grateful to have someone with his ties to OSF and the Rogue Valley in this role as we enter my final season as artistic director.”

As acting executive director, Christy will supervise OSF’s administrative staff and operations, — playing a crucial role, according to OSF, in the development of a multi-year budgetary plan, organizational hiring, human resource initiatives, IT and infrastructure projects, and development and marketing revenue opportunities.

Christy spent 40 years working for the federal government in the Congressional Budget Office, the Commerce Department and the Small Business Administration. He later served as a senior federal employee deployed in times of transition.

Christy’s wife Teresina grew up in Southern Oregon and for almost 40 years the couple came back from Washington, D.C. to attend plays at OSF — eventually moving to the Rogue Valley for retirement, while volunteering at Southern Oregon University and OSF.
