OAK RUN, Calif. — Two men from Jackson County were discovered dead with visible gunshot wounds in a remote area northeast of Redding on Monday, according to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.
Around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Shasta County deputies and officers from California Highway Patrol responded to a dirt road near Zig Zag lane, outside of the community of Oak Run, for reports of two bodies lying near a pair of parked vehicles. At the scene, the officers confirmed the presence of two dead men, both with apparent gunshot wounds.
The Shasta County Major Crimes Unit responded to take over the investigation. The two men were identified as 32-year-old Meba Solomon Getachew of Ashland and 33-year-old Gunnar Eliot Yeager of Medford.
"At this time, there is no indication the general public’s safety is at risk," the Sheriff's Office said. "Detectives are actively conducting follow up to determine the person or persons responsible."
More details about possible motives in the killings is not being released pending further investigation. Autopsies have been scheduled for both of the victims.
