ASHLAND, Ore--- Oregon Tech ace Sarah Abramson came into the Cascade Conference Tournament with something to prove on Friday, in a 3-0 win over Warner Pacific. Southern Oregon took a little more time than normal, but opened with a 4-1 win over Corban.
The No. 3 seeded Owls (39-8) took down No. 6 seeded WPU (19-24) behind an opening day no hitter from Abramson.
Abramson pitched the full seven innings and registered 10 strikeouts. The win advances Oregon Tech to the 4:30 p.m. game vs No. 2 seeded College of Idaho.
The next game will be a rematch of last weekend's series split between the two that resulted in Oregon Tech's decent to No. 17 in the national rankings.
The winner of that game will take on top-seeded and top-ranked Southern Oregon on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Southern Oregon (46-3) needed a bit more time than it normally does to squeak out a win over Corban.
SOU took a quick lead in the bottom of the 1st inning with a Quirke RBI-double. Stines came in to score and SOU took a 1-0 lead.
Corban would even the score in the top of the 5th when Uppinghouse knocked a double down the infield line and Humphrey came in to score.
Behind Gabby Sandoval though, that's all Corban would be able to muster. Sandoval only allowed two hits on the entire seven innings and registered eight strikeouts.
In the top of 6th, SOU's bats came alive. Avery Morehead-Hutsell tripled to right and brought in Winterburn. Stines sac-bunted and brought Morehead-Hutsell in. Shimek was walked. Quirke doubled and brought in Shimek. Suddenly, SOU was up 4-1.
After that, Sandoval went back to work and ended things.
Southern Oregon advances to day two with a 1-0 record on the tournament. That marks the 10th straight CCC Tournament win for SOU over the past several years.
Southern Oregon is slated to play the winner of Oregon Tech and the College of Idaho (35-14) on Saturday.
