ASHLAND, Ore--- Southern Oregon Women's Basketball is one of the only teams in the Rogue Valley that has not played a game since the COVID-19 pandemic took hold of the globe. When Southern Oregon returns to the floor, it will do so with a first-time head coach. Southern Oregon announced Carlotta Kloppenburg-Pruitt as its 14th head coach on Thursday.

"I am pumped. I am so excited," said Kloppenburg-Pruitt. "I am just really grateful for the opportunity and Matt [Sayre] and everyone to believe in me. It is a great place. I am so excited to get up there and work with all the girls. They are a lot of fun so it will be a great group."

The Susanville, California native spent the past three seasons as an assistant at San Jose State. At San Jose, Kloppenburg-Pruitt was a recruiting coordinator and defensive scheme specialist.

Kloppenburg-Pruitt says she is excited to pair her experience with fast-paced offenses at San Jose State with what the Raiders already do.

She will replace Alex Carlson who resigned during the pause in SOU's play.

Kloppenburg-Pruitt's knowledge in basketball extends past coaching. She played for Point Loma Nazarene for two seasons. There, she was a two-time Academic All-PacWest honoree.

Kloppenburg-Pruitt also has experience at the highest level. She was a coaching intern for the Los Angeles Sparks and Indiana Fever in 2014 and 2015. She was also a basketball operations intern with the Tulsa Shock in 2012 and '13.

NewsWatch 12 spoke to Kloppenburg-Pruitt within the hour of her hiring announcement. On Thursday at 6 and 11, you will hear from her during the sportscast. Also, Cameron Derby will feature her during the Roundball Wrap's return on Friday at 11:15 p.m.
