Oregon State Baseball Advances to College World Series

The Beavers will face North Carolina on Saturday in Omaha.

CORVALLIS—For the seventh time in program history and the second time in as many years, Oregon State baseball is headed to Omaha for the College World Series.

The Beavers rallied for a come-from-behind win over Minnesota on Saturday night to sweep the Corvallis Regional and lock in a date with North Carolina on Saturday.

The deficit against the Gophers was Oregon State’s first of the NCAA Tournament, yet there was no panic.

Kyle Nobach tied the game with a run-scoring hit in the eighth, and the Beavers promptly went for the jugular and plated three in the ninth to seal the game.

Head coach Pat Casey seems fully convinced that if his team keeps playing like this, it’ll be hard pressed not to make a serious push for the program’s third national championship.

"I think we’ve got enough young guys, we've got enough energy, we've got enough vets,” Casey said. “I believe we're prepared to do the things to go into battle. I don't think there's a whole lot of things we're going to be able to do practice-wise that's going to help us get better. I just think we're there and it's a mentality, and it's a culture.”

Next Saturday’s meeting between the Beavers and Tar Heels is a battle of one seeds and features a pair of teams who have quite the history against each other.

They met in the championship game in 2006 and 2007, with Oregon State winning both to claim its two national titles.

North Carolina and Oregon State will be joined by the winner of Cal State Fullerton/Washington as well as Vanderbilt/Mississippi State to round out the right side of the bracket.
