ASHLAND, Ore--- SOU Softball's Lauren Quirke added one more award to her impressive list just before the start of the NAIA World Series. Quirke was named the Cascade Conference Women's Scholar Athlete of the Year on Wednesday. She becomes the first SOU student-athlete representing a women's team to win the award.

Quirke graduated in 2020 with a degree in communications but she is still enrolled in SOU's Management of Human Resources program. In that program, she currently holds a 4.0 GPA.

Once the grades are taken care of, it is no surprise to see Quirke recognized for her play on the diamond. Quirke is batting .486 with 10 home runs this season. Not to mention, her dominance on the plate carries over to her dominance in the circle. Quirke is 14-2 with a 1.73 ERA.

The Raiders will open the NAIA World Series against the winner of Milligan vs Bethany. The Raiders will play at 4 p.m. on Friday. With the No. 1 seed, the Raiders will not play on the opening day of the series.
