COLUMBUS, Ga. — Total domination. Lauren Quirke was unstoppable as the Bethany College Swedes had no answer for the product of San Mateo. A complete game shutout while providing pop at the plate, Quirke kept the Raiders season alive.
There wasn’t any offense until the second inning. Allie Stines roped a two-out triple that one-hopped the fence in center field. Cailyn Leone scored easily from third after coming in to pinch run for Rylan Austin after she singled to lead off the inning. Avery Morehead-Hutsell scored from first to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead after an inning and a half.
Quirke kept her solid outing going in the bottom of the second, striking out her third and fourth batters of the games. After sitting down the fourth, Quirke led off the top of the third with a solo home run over the right-field wall to add to the Raiders lead. An inning later, Quirke padded her lead with a two-RBI double up the middle.
The 2019 NAIA World Series MVP was stellar in all facets of the game. From the circle, Quirke went 6 innings, striking out 8 and not letting a single Swedes runner cross home. At the plate, the San Mateo, California native was perfect, going 4-for-4 with a solo home run, 4 runs batted in and scored a pair of runs.
Thanks to Quirke’s all-around performance, the Raiders will play again on Tuesday against the College of Idaho at 4 pm PT. The winner advances to the national title game on Wednesday against Oregon Tech.
