ASHLAND, Ore--- The top-ranked Southern Oregon softball team (21-1) continued its dominance over the Cascade Collegiate Conference with two shutout wins over Warner Pacific (7-9) on Thursday. This was the first half of a four-game series in SOU's home opening weekend.

Ace Gabby Sandoval claimed her 101th win in game one.

Lauren Quirke extended her scoreless inning streak to 31 in game two.

Game One:

In game one, Southern Oregon showed how fast it can take a game over in route to an 8-0 win in just five innings.

The Raiders started hot off the bat. Southern Oregon jumped to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the opening inning.

The score would stay that way until the bottom of the fifth. That is when Southern Oregon exploded for five runs to end the game by mercy rule. When the game ended, Southern Oregon only had one out. There also would have been more runners in scoring position.

That kind of scoring barrage is very difficult to overcome when Southern Oregon's pitcher doesn't really allow anything to happen for the opposition.

Ace Gabby Sandoval earned her 101st career win after throwing all five innings. Sandoval only allowed two hits and struck out 10 different hitters.

Game Two:

Game two was even more of the same. There was a lot of hitting for SOU and not a lot of hitting for Warner Pacific.

SOU's Allie Stines and Hannah Shimek each scored two runs. Stines got three RBI off two hits.

Lauren Quirke moved 7-1 on the season. The more impressive feat for Quirke came in the form of scoreless innings. Quirke's 13 strikeouts and only two hits allowed led to her 31st consecutive scoreless inning. Quirke pitched all seven innings and did not walk a single hitter.

Up next:

The Raiders are back in Ashland to finish the series with Warner Pacific on Friday. It will be the last two games that SOU plays before making the trip to Klamath to take on an undefeated OIT team.

On Friday, game one will start at 1:00 p.m. Game two will start at 3:00 p.m.
