LA GRANDE, Ore. — Southern Oregon entered Saturday's contest on a four-game losing streak in the 2021 season, but a 7-1 record when playing in La Grande. Disaster struck in the fourth quarter as the Raiders watched Eastern Oregon drive 90 yards in 50 seconds to complete the late comeback, handing SOU its fifth-straight loss.
The Raiders had put together a good first half, out passing and out rushing the Mountaineers despite having a turnover and more penalty yards against them. SOU had 124 yards through the air and 74 on the ground, a vast improvement from the previous week.
But the second half featured some inconsistent play on offense. Southern Oregon only managed 18 more yards on the ground and 76 yards through the air. Despite being outgained 231 to 94, SOU still found themselves ahead 10-7 in the final minute of the game.
A punt pinned Eastern Oregon on their own 10-yard line with 0:53 left in the game. From there, Kai Quinn and the Mountaineers offense orchestrated a seven-play, 90-yard drive in 50 seconds ending in a 21-yard touchdown pass from Quinn to Saige Wilkerson.
Southern Oregon had one last shot to score with two seconds left but the hail mary pass was intercepted in the endzone, sealing the Raiders 2021 record at 3-7, going winless on the road.
