Raiders set to host CCC Tournament, NAIA Opening Round

Another season, another chance to host postseason play in southern Oregon for the SOU Raiders softball team.

Posted: May 3, 2021 6:29 PM

ASHLAND, Ore. — For the third straight season, the Southern Oregon University Raiders softball team will host the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament and the NAIA Softball Championship Opening Round. A testament to the dominance on the diamond the Raiders have had in recent years.

The postseason push for SOU begins this Friday, May 7, with the first day of the CCC tournament. They will play the winner of the early morning game between Eastern Oregon and Corban. Both teams have yet to defeat the Raiders this season.

Oregon Tech, the only team to have beaten the Raiders in a conference game, will play their first of a possible two Friday games at 11:30 am against Warner Pacific.

Two weeks from today, the Raiders and the City of Medford will host one of the NAIA Opening Rounds at U.S. Cellular Community Park. The NAIA selects hosts based on geography, facilities and national rankings, but does not consider sites without field lights, which rules out SOU's own University Field, according to SOU Athletics.

The teams and their opening round destinations won't be revealed until May 11 after the conference tournaments around the country. From there, the 10 Opening Round champions will advance to Columbus, Georgia, for the NAIA World Series starting May 27.

Before the start of the NAIA Tournament, teams have to get through the guantlet known as the CCC Tournament. Here is the schedule for this weekend:
