ASHLAND, Ore. — No 20-year-old should know the pain of losing a parent. No one expects to first feel it in the middle of a college softball game. But for one SOU Raider softball player, it's a reality.

Mackenzie Evangelisti is that Raider.

She lost her father, Robert, in the middle of a softball game to liver disease. After going on to win the NAIA National Championship in that same year, one of her teammates is helping to remember Robert's legacy.

Allie Stines, a transfer catcher from the College of San Mateo, organized a charity softball game to honor any and all those affected by any sort of disease, disability, disorder or cancer.

Allie and her teammates are hoping to show that almost everyone knows a person that is affected or has been affected by something.

They asked for people to donate to their Go Fund Me page then fill out ribbons to honor someone they know who is a fighter, a survivor, or a lost loved one. Allie said they received over 300 ribbons.

Each ribbon will be displayed on the fence at Southern Oregon's University Softball Field during the doubleheader against the College of San Mateo, which starts at 11 am.

All of the proceeds from the event benefit the American Cancer Society.
