GRANTS PASS, Ore. — The announcement came suddenly on Tuesday morning in a social media post from Hidden Valley's star quarterback. The University of Montana Grizzlies would be getting Sam Vidlak.
Vidlak said via Twitter, "After a great talk with [Montana Head Football Coach Bobby Hauck], I am honored and thankful to announce I’ve received a full-ride offer from the University of Montana. With that being said I would like to announce my commitment to The University of Montana. I can’t wait to play for the Griz!"
Still a junior, Vidlak has another year at Hidden Valley High School and still plans on playing football in his senior season.
"To Hidden Valley, my teammates, coaches, and our community, we have one year left together, and we have unfinished business," Vidlak said in his announcement on Twitter.
In the 2019 season, Vidlak helped lead the Mustangs to the 3A State Championship, before they fell to Santiam Christian 41-34.
The University of Montana football team is a Division I program in the FCS. In 2019, the Grizzlies went 10-4 and advanced to the FCS quarterfinals before losing 17-10 to No. 3 Weber State. The two quarterbacks with the most playing time in the 2019 season are redshirt senior Dalton Sneed and redshirt junior Cam Humphrey. Both would be graduated in Vidlak's freshman season.
