ASHLAND, Ore. — In the past two meetings between Warner Pacific and the Raiders of Southern Oregon, the latter team was slow out of the gate before turning up the offense. On Wednesday night in the Cascade Conference tournament, however, that was not the case.
SOU led by as many as 13 points in the first half and never looked back, ending WPU's season with an 82-65 victory.
Once again, the Raiders were led by Knight-slayer Tate Hoffman.
Hoffman, the 6-foot-7 senior from West Linn, scored a team-high 26 points against WPU bringing his season total against the Knights to 79 points. He also pulled down nine rebounds and picked up two assists.
Keeping with this season's tradition of getting everyone involved, the Raiders 82 points Wednesday night were thanks to the contributions of ten different players. In total, 14 players got playing time for Southern Oregon.
The Raiders' defense was just as impressive. For the third time this month, the defense held its opponent's field goal percentage under 31 percent.
With the win, Southern Oregon will host the semifinal match-up with rival Oregon Tech. In their two meetings this season, both teams have won a game, but neither has won on the road. Tip-off between the two nationally-ranked teams (#7 SOU, #8 OIT) will take place at 7 pm on Saturday at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
