spartans closed out their series with the bellingham blazers this afternoon... the second to last home weekend series of the year for the black and gold... today a chance to snap their opponent's nine game winning streak. to the ice arena... i believe the pronunciation is the "rrrrrink..." it was poetic today... because finally, the outdoor conditions matched how cold it is in this icebox... we all know it ain't nothing to a hockey player though. ===== the action was chippy .... second period, blazers leading one-nothing .... and feeling the need to inflict some pain ... huge hit sends a spartan face first into the board... there was retaliation ... but no penalty called. ===== same cannot be said for this sequence right here... valicheck for the spartans with the pile drive and the takedown .... if there were a student section on hand they'd chant you can't do that... it gives the blazers a powerplay chance.... but austin toussaint ... look what i found. great save for the southern goalie. ===== but things would stay one- nothing all the way until the final seconds... blazers capitalizing on a spartans empty net... and there's your dagger... 2-nothing, the spartans fall. five games left to go on southern oregon's schedule... three more at home. next weekend the spartans host the second place icemen for a three game set ... before finishing off the season in seattle for two against the totems.
