High number of crashes in Siskiyou County

CHP, Cal Fire and other agencies had their hands full with an influx of emergency calls early Thursday morning from icy roads.

swatch 12's emma balkenbush is live in yreka. she tells us why california highway patrol says this morning's wrecks had a much bigger effect on them than it normally does. [a7]i5 siskiyou accidents-live stinger chp here in yreka and in mt. shasta responded to 16 crashes in just about 3 hours. to give you an idea of just how significant that is.. the pio i spoke with today tells me he never really has to leave the officer here, but today there were so many accidents every officer was take a look at these pictures. one of those crashes involved a fire rescue truck from grenada fire. that's a volunteer department down here. chp says the department was responding to a rollover crash around 7:20 on i-5. firefighters were helping out the driver of that truck when a big rig with a this embankment. it is now totaled. crews had a lot of clean up to do after. were able to get that re opened and get traffic moving again." there is a very strong commraderie among the local offer help. chp also says an 81 year old mount shasta man into a tree and drainage canal. two other passengers were taken to the hospital. today was extremely busy for coming up tonight at 6 - 12. pacific power says it wants to clear confusion around the smart
