new bill aims to tax cedar says: "the county continues to propose solutions which are ownerous? and which would result in the demise of many local family farms." cedar grey has been very active in the cannabis industry for about two decades now. he's had siskiyou sungrown in williams since 2014 last year he says he was appointed by governor brown to the nine- member oregon cannabis commission. it advises agencies and oregon on marijuana policies. he's absolutely against this bill. cedar says: "cannabis farms are aleady losing money. this is a highly saturated market in a new and volitile industry and we're already the most heavily taxed industry in the nation. irs tax code 280e eliminates most deductions for cannabis companies which makes it very difficult to profit even under the best circumstances." andryanna says: "here's a breakdown of what this bill would tax.the bill proposes a $50 tax for every plant on a medical marijuana farm. take down andryanna two line for a recreation far its one dollar for every square foot. siskiyou sungrown has two farms at 80,000 square feet combined, meaning it would have to pay an additional 80,000." that money would go toward law enforcement. with these additonal funds, the josephine county hopes the sheriff's office could crack down on illegal marijuana grows. which josephine county's legal counsel wally hicks says the county is full of. wally says: "if the counties are going to have a legitamite licensure program for producing marijuana then they have got to inforce laws pertaining to producing unlicensed marijuana." grey knows the josephine county sheriff's office doesn't have the resources to get rid of those illegal farm--but he says there is a better way to getting funds from the fee grows already pay to the state. cedar says: "we would like to see a reworking of a the formula which distributes the oregon cannabis tax. right now the formula is heavily weighted toward northern ocounties with their heavy retail presence. we would like to see a reworking of that distribution formula so that more funding was dedicated to producer counties like josephine." this bill currently sits in the oregon house. the josephine county commissioners look forward to the bill progressing. in williams, andryanna sheppard, newswatch 12.
